1st Saturdays
Our most asked about event is the

1st Saturday of every month

If you produce an art product and desire to show and sell to the public, then 1st Saturday could be a good venue. Booths are scattered throughout the Chicken Farm Art Center and the Inn at the Art Center.
This event is open 10 to 5 and free to the public. We have free clay for kids and other activities, music, demonstrations, and Silo House Restaurant has lunch food for sale. The event attracts a large crowd and we can accommodate many artists setting up 10x10 booths.  Our purpose of 1st Saturday is to promote the Art Spirit in San Angelo. We are trying to show the best of the best art work.
Please help us maintain quality Art

The Art Center reserves the right to approve of work for showing.  Also we need a variety of work…a lot of different media. Some media have been saturated and will require a jury system in the future.

To be considered for space - 1st come by with work and let us see what you do or email in digital pictures of your work and information.
Generally Roger is in the shop from 10 to 5, Tuesday through Saturday or you can call ahead and plan a time.  If Roger should be unavailable then Pam Bladine or Jerry & Susan Warnell will review the work.  After viewing your work, if need be, there are others that will look at work and make the decision of it fitting with what we are trying to present to the community.

When selected to show-
on the 1st Saturday come to check in at the registration table or in the Art Center office and pay your booth fee.  Fee for a booth is $20.00.  Demonstrating artists may be given other considerations. All visiting artists need to fill out a new artist information page in case we need to contact you or in case of emergency. If you have already filled out a sheet then just come sign in and pay booth fee before setting up. We will make a name badge that should be worn all day and visible to all visitors.
During the day Jerry or Pam will come by and take your photo with name badge visible and photos of work.  Returning artist will not have to do this again, but please make changes to your information, as necessary. Especially phone and email information.

Set up time is between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
After driving into Art Center lot and unloading please park across the street in the open lot - so our visitors can park close.  Artists are responsible for booth tables, chairs, or tents.  Show opens at 10 a.m.

The location of your booth is at the discretion of the Art Center!
Several long term participants have 1st choice on their location… but there are no bad spots and we have room to expand. Please no bickering. We don't like it. Sometimes you'll be happy and…sometimes… almost happy.

If you want to be listed in the monthly Art Center newsletter, I need an email copy (something like a word doc that we can cut/paste) of information emailed to office before 20th of month before a 1st Saturday.

Annual Thanksgiving Open House
Fri., Sat, & Sun
following Thanksgiving Day
Open House is our biggest event of the year. The fee for Thanksgiving Open house is $75.00 for a 10x10 booth space for all three days. Friday and Saturday hours are 10 to 5. Sunday we open 11 to 4. If you can not attend all 3 days we will visit with you about days and cost.
Some artists set up on Thursday but Friday morning is good for set up. The rules for 1st Sat apply to open house. We will have a booth map plan for artists location to set up their space (specific location request will be considered but NOT promised).  If you are interested in having space contact Roger at 325-653-4936 or Jerry at 659-3836 for more info or to reserve a place in the shows.

Theme show with Friday night opening
In 2010 we started having some months were we present a special theme and invite artists that work in the chosen media. The plan is to start a series of wine and cheese openings that take place on the Friday night before 1st Sat. with special email invitations being sent to a select list. Also the artists will be showing to a large crowd on 1st Saturday and might be available for a Sat. gallery talk at an arranged time.
This will involve Friday night opening from 5 to 8:30 and is held in Studio 1 space.  Studio 1 is a 900 sq. ft room reserved for special exhibits and meetings. It's a fresh, clean space. This room is by reservation and a fee is charged for use. Generally 3 artists are invited to show. We charge 10% commission on sales. Artists interested in the Studio One possibility should contact Roger or Pam at 325-653-4936 or Jerry at 325-659-3836 for more information.

Many good artists locally do not show every month, but we will be calling to encourage you to show at special theme time. Artists working with us on this will not be charged a booth fee but 10% of sales.

Themes for 2011 are being worked on and we are looking at these possibilities.
April - clay
May - metal
October - fiber
November - painting
Sculpture…Jewelry…others?
If you have an idea and interest in showing please contact us.
